Despite Ben-Gvir’s Restrictions, Sinjlawi Restores Jerusalem’s Political and Diplomatic Presence
Despite the policies of Itamar Ben-Gvir and his government, the New Path initiative continues its prominent diplomatic activity in Jerusalem. Samer Sinjlawi, head of the New Path’s preparatory committee, affirmed the continuation of political and diplomatic meetings in Jerusalem, despite what he described as Israeli restrictions and measures imposed on Palestinian political activity in the city.
Sinjlawi stated that the high-level international meetings he hosts in Jerusalem “restore to the city some of the spirit of the Palestinian capital that was taken from us since the closure of Orient House and the passing of our dear and esteemed brother, the late Faisal Husseini.”
He added, “We are doing this in full view of Ben-Gvir and his government, who, if they could, would not hesitate to storm the meeting hall and arrest the participants, under the pretext of violating what they call Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem.”
Al-Sinjlawi emphasized that a “new path” is being pursued to confront these measures, as he put it, “with realism, moderation, and self-confidence.” He asserted that Palestinian political action in Jerusalem must be “strong, responsible, and open to the world.”
He noted that his meetings this month included three delegations of US Congress members, in addition to parliamentary and diplomatic delegations from European and North American countries, as well as diplomats from several countries and the European Union.
Al-Sinjlawi concluded by saying, “We are restoring the voice of Palestine to its rightful place, and we are restoring to Jerusalem, our capital, the political and diplomatic presence and standing it deserves.”
