For decades, Benjamin Netanyahu has been a symbol of political influence in Israel, a man adept at playing on internal contradictions and exploiting crises to his advantage. To some, he was the “uncrowned king of Israel,” and to his opponents, he embodied division, corruption, and cold pragmatism. However, the man’s journey, which began with a meteoric rise to the pinnacle of power, is now crumbling before the eyes of the world, amid unprecedented crises that threaten his political survival and perhaps his entire history. Great Heights: Netanyahu at the Peak of His Power Since the 1990s, Netanyahu has mastered the art of playing on “national security” and the existential fears of Israeli society. He has presented himself as the defender of the Jewish state against Iran and Palestinian factions, and he has cleverly played on the division between right and left. During his many terms in office, he established strong relations with the United States and achieved diplomatic breakthroughs, such as normalization agreements with several Arab countries, enhancing his image as a leader capable of achieving the “impossible.” The Beginning of the Fall: Internal and External Crises However, his luster of power began to fade over time. The corruption cases that dogged him, the massive popular protests against his policies, and the deep divisions within Israeli society over his “judicial reforms” all shattered his image as a strong leader. Then came the recent war on Gaza, exposing his government’s inability to achieve its goals and placing him in confrontation with the military establishment, and even with the families of soldiers and settlers themselves. The Prophecy of Joshua: The Fall of the Arrogant In Jewish religious tradition, the story of Joshua, the disciple of Moses and later leader of the Israelites, is told. Joshua, who conquered Jericho, was only victorious after his people abandoned their arrogance and submitted to God’s command. He punished the arrogant and brought down the walls of their artificial power. In contrast, Netanyahu represents an example of a leader who has looked down on his people and believed that politics is merely a game of personal survival. Here, downfall becomes an inevitable outcome, as if the “Prophecy of Joshua” is symbolically manifested in today’s reality: arrogance always leads to collapse. The Open End Netanyahu may survive politically for a while, and he may find a new trick to remain in power, but he has undoubtedly lost much of his former luster. From the great heights that earned him the title “King of Israel” to the moment of his downfall, when crises besiege him on all sides, the scene remains open to a dramatic ending. It’s as if history repeats itself: “Every arrogant person will perish.” الامانه العامه ابراهيم عسليه Ibrahim Assalia التاريخ 03-08-2025
