Tel Aviv Conference Highlights Palestinian-Israeli Alliance to Revive Two-State Solution

Tel Aviv: The annual conference of the Berl Katznelson Foundation in Tel Aviv witnessed clear indications of the formation of a moderate Palestinian-Israeli camp seeking to bring the political solution and the two-state solution back to the forefront of public debate. The conference was attended by prominent Israeli political figures and thousands of participants and activists.

The conference was attended by Yair Golan, head of the Democratic Party, along with several Knesset members, including Gilad Kariv and Naama Lazimi. For the first time in an election year, there were public and repeated calls from various Israeli speakers to revive the political process based on the two-state solution.

The intervention of Palestinian opposition leader Samer Sinjlawi garnered significant attention, culminating in a standing ovation from the more than 1,200 attendees. Observers considered this a sign of a growing desire within Israeli circles to hear a Palestinian voice calling for political partnership and moderation. During his speech, Sinjlawi emphasized that “the conflict today is no longer just between Palestinians and Israelis, but has become a conflict between moderates and extremists on both sides.” He added, “I see before me today 1,200 partners in the moderate camp, and you must realize that you have millions of partners among moderate Palestinians, and I am one of them.”

Sinjlawi warned that Israel’s failure to make a decisive political choice in the upcoming elections, and to vote for a leadership that opens the door to a political solution based on the two-state solution, would mean risking “a new earthquake similar to October 7th.”

He also stressed that any future political solution must begin with “mutual recognition of the historical connection of both peoples to this land,” considering mutual recognition of the historical connection of both sides to this land a necessary foundation for any lasting settlement.

This conference comes amidst escalating debate within Israel and moderate Palestinian circles regarding the future of the political process and the possibility of building new alliances between moderate forces on both sides to counter the growing influence of extremist currents.
