A Blow to the Israeli Right-Wing Government: 12 Countries Boycott Settlement Products

A Blow to the Israeli Right-Wing Government: 12 Countries Boycott Settlement Products

By Dr. Ibrahim Assalia

Twelve countries, including Canada, France, Britain, Spain, Norway, Ireland, and Sweden, have announced the imposition or support of restrictions and bans on the import of products from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. This move reflects the escalating international pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu’s government due to settlement expansion and rising settler violence.

The move comes at a sensitive time for the Israeli right-wing government, which is facing increasing international criticism for its settlement policies. The countries described their action as a response to what they considered an unprecedented level of settler violence and settlement expansion.

The joining of major countries like Britain, France, and Canada in this effort constitutes increasing political and diplomatic pressure on Israel, even though the direct economic impact of the boycott may be limited compared to its political significance.

The most prominent message: Settlements are no longer without international cost.
